FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You’ve got photo session questions? I’m here to help!

What’s the Start-To-Finish Process for Photos?

Book with a non-refundable deposit to reserve your session time ($200 toward the balance, can be transferred up until 72-hours prior to the schedules session). We choose a spot (or I’m happy to make that call!). Have an awesome photo experience with lots of awesome photos. After I receive your paid invoice, I’ll email you a very cool, online gallery of hi-res JPEGS for easy downloading, sharing and printing and you have full usage licensing for the images. Turnaround time for smaller photo sessions such as branding, headshots, family, seniors, corporate business, or lifestyle is two weeks. Weddings and other large event turnaround time are six to eight weeks. **Rush service for a faster turnaround may be purchased upon request.**

Where Do Photo Sessions Happen?

For nearly all sessions, on-location is my style—meaning the world is our backdrop. Natural light is mainly what you see in all my headshot, family, senior and business/lifestyle galleries. For business and personal branding, weddings and lifestyle promotional sessions, I add cinematic flair with on and off-camera lighting. I use pre-scouted areas around the Seattle area for photo sessions, and also am happy to collaborate for any special office or outdoor aesthetics and requests! Private studio rentals can be discussed/booked by the client as desired and I highly recommend Peerspace.

What Should I Wear?

For Headshots - Business Branding - Seniors - Lifestyle -Engagements: Arrive wearing something that makes you feel great! I also suggest bringing a bag of options with form-fitting options including something light paired with something dark, and something with a burst of color or jewel tone that brings out your eyes and complexion. Ideas: A blend of long and short sleeved shirts, blazers and jackets for layering, v-necks and scoop necks, scarves, hats, cool boots and other embellishments are always welcome and encouraged. Check out the galleries for inspiration!

What Should I NOT Wear?

Transition lens glasses are a no-go. They will instantly look like sunglasses and then we can’t see your eyes— and we really want to see those. Avoid tanning lotion unless you want to be an adorable cheez-it oompa loompa. Try to avoid extreme patterns or logos, shirts that hug above your collarbone, or really thick jewelry so they don’t distract from your face (unless loud is part of your personal brand, then by all means, go for it).

What Do I Do About Makeup and Hair?

Remember this important piece of info: The whole point is to look like yourself in these photos. Anyone should be able to look at the photo, then at you, and instantly say “Yes, that’s them and they look fabulous!” If you know a stylist or are great with your own hair and make-up, that’s wonderful! If not and you’d like a little boost, I've had clients happy with my fabulous colleague Sarah Rose or in a pinch, Swink Style Bar in Seattle for that naturally accented, polished look of slight emphasis on eyes, blush and lips. The same thing applies to hair—no need to transform yourself for this occasion. You know better than anyone how it normally looks good, so keep it in the realm of how you’d normally have it styled. We want you to look like YOU, on a very good day. :)

Do You Offer Retouching On Images?

Sure! Where the entire online gallery is edited with lighting/color correction and a preset of vibrance and skin softening, up-close retouching can be purchased upon request ($30/image). Retouching will diminish blemishes and fine lines, brighten eyes, and remove stains and flyaway hairs. Note: Retouching does NOT include body modifications in order to maintain the integrity of the images.

What If It’s Raining?

Your call! I am nearly weatherproof so unless there is lightning or a full downpour, I’m game. I will always defer to the client for your own comfort level and am happy to reschedule if that feels best, but alternately, many of my locations are PNW weather savvy and include spots to keep you safe and dry regardless of potential drizzles. We can keep an eye on forecasts and decide the day before the session.

Family/Couples and Group Sessions—Should We Match?

Yes-ish, but it’s more low key than you might think. Think of a palette that works well for your family or group, such as everyone wearing warm tones, cool tones, natural tones (with a pop of color) or rich jewel tones. Take a look at my family and branding galleries for ideas!

I Don’t Know How To Pose! I’m Not Photogenic! I feel Awkward Having My Picture Taken! Etc etc

That’s okay! Honestly, I’ve found most people feel that way, and you don’t need to worry because all that is MY job. One of my superpowers is helping you feel comfortable and organically directly posing to make it less awkward and more fun. You think you’re not photogenic? Heard that. Challenge accepted. You’ll be just fine, and we’re going to have a good time:)
